San Francisco Giants vs Miami Marlins (4:10pm)

Landen Roupp opened the season in strong form, going 5-1 with a 2.55 ERA through April, but he has hit a rough patch since then and has dropped each of his last six starts. Even with the recent struggles, this looks like a spot where positive regression could be coming, which fits well for an under. Roupp still brings swing-and-miss ability with 82 strikeouts on the season, giving him a path to keep Miami from building extended rallies. The key will be limiting free passes and keeping the ball in the park, which is especially important against a Marlins lineup that is more contact-based than power-driven. Miami can put pressure on defenses by putting the ball in play, but this is not an offense built around consistent home-run damage, ranking behind San Francisco in both slugging and home runs.
Lake Bachar is another major reason to like the under in this matchup. He enters with a sub-3.00 ERA and has been in excellent recent form, allowing just one earned run over 10.2 innings in June while striking out 13. His swing-and-miss ability matches up well against a Giants offense that can go quiet for long stretches and ranks near the top of MLB in strikeouts this season. Bachar also does a strong job limiting free baserunners, carrying an impressive 0.89 WHIP, which forces San Francisco to earn everything with clean contact. In a pitcher-friendly park that naturally suppresses runs, the Giants will have to work extremely hard for every run tonight.
The betting market is showing plenty of support for the over, yet oddsmakers have held firm and kept the total at 8. That is usually a strong under signal because it suggests the books are comfortable with their number despite public pressure pushing toward a higher-scoring game. I have this game handicapped at 7 runs so we are getting value at the current odds. These teams have gone under in 9 of the last 10 meetings at loanDepot park.
