Los Angeles Dodgers vs New York Yankees (4:05pm)

The Yankees have a real opportunity to open the second half of the season with a statement win against the Dodgers tonight at Yankee Stadium. While Los Angeles enters with the better overall record at 61-36, New York finished the first half with four straight wins and has momentum on its side heading into this highly anticipated matchup.

The biggest reason to believe in the Yankees is the starting pitching matchup. Gerrit Cole gets the ball for New York against Roki Sasaki. Cole has not been at his absolute best this season, but his experience in high-pressure games gives the Yankees an advantage in a matchup with this much energy surrounding it. Sasaki, meanwhile, enters with a 3-5 record, a 5.33 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP, making him vulnerable against a Yankees lineup that has the power to change a game quickly.

New York should also benefit from playing at home. Yankee Stadium can punish pitchers who make mistakes, and the Yankees have enough dangerous bats to take advantage if Sasaki struggles with his command. Even without Aaron Judge, New York has received strong production from players such as Cody Bellinger and Ben Rice, giving the lineup enough depth to put pressure on Los Angeles throughout the game.

There is also a momentum factor. The Yankees entered the All-Star break riding a four-game winning streak, while the Dodgers had lost five of their previous seven. Los Angeles is still one of baseball's strongest teams, but the combination of New York's recent form, home-field advantage and a favorable opportunity against a struggling Sasaki gives the Yankees a clear path to victory.

For the Yankees, the formula is simple: Cole needs to keep the Dodgers' lineup under control early, the offense needs to force Sasaki into mistakes, and the bullpen has to protect any late lead. If those things happen, New York will beat Los Angeles and begin the second half of the season with one of its biggest wins of the year.
