Cleveland Guardians vs Tampa Bay Rays (5:00pm)

I’m backing Guardians/Rays Under 6.5 runs tonight. The biggest reason is the starting pitching matchup. Tampa Bay sends Freddy Peralta to the mound, and he enters Game 2 with a 1.93 postseason ERA and 0.86 WHIP. He’s been especially sharp since joining Tampa Bay, and Cleveland is facing a much different challenge than the Rays bullpen they were able to get to late in Game 1.
On the other side, Parker Messick gives Cleveland a great chance to control Tampa Bay's lineup. His 5.40 postseason ERA looks concerning at first glance, but the sample is only 6.2 innings. During the regular season, Messick posted an excellent 2.56 ERA across 186.1 innings, showing the type of run prevention that makes him capable of navigating this Rays lineup. Tampa Bay's offense has also struggled badly during the postseason. The Rays entered Game 2 hitting only .209 with a 67 wRC+, meaning their overall offensive production has been roughly 33% below league average. That’s a major factor when we're dealing with such a low total.
I also wouldn't overreact to the 7-3 final in Game 1. That game was tied 2-2 late before Tampa Bay's bullpen fell apart. Drew Rasmussen held Cleveland to two runs into the seventh inning, and most of the scoring came after the starters were gone. Cleveland's bullpen, meanwhile, allowed only one run across five innings. The final score makes Game 1 look much more offensive than most of the game actually was.
Another angle I like is the market positioning. Despite a total of only 6.5, more than 80% of reported tickets and 90% of the money at one sportsbook were backing the Over earlier today. That makes the Under an interesting contrarian spot, especially when the pitching matchup and Tampa Bay's postseason offensive numbers point toward another low-scoring game.
