Chicago White Sox vs Minnesota Twins (4:40pm)

Davis Martin (8-1, 2.00 ERA, 0.99 WHIP) is the anchor here. The right-hander has been one of the best starters in baseball this year, with elite command, only 3 HR allowed in 67.2 IP, and a recent 6-inning, 1-run gem against these same Twins. He’s consistently kept games quiet early, giving up very little hard contact or traffic in the first five innings.

Despite surrendering 6 runs to the White Sox in his recent outing, Connor Prielipp (1-3, 5.13 ERA) has pitched well at home. He boasts a 1-1 record with a 2.81 ERA, and his opponents have been struggling, hitting just .132 against him. With Murakami out for the next 4-6 weeks, Prielipp will have one less slugger to worry about.

Both clubs started their seasons with impressive offensive performances, but those numbers are starting to decline. The White Sox, currently ranked 7th in runs scored, have averaged 2.88 runs in the first five innings of each game this season. However, that figure has dropped to 2.0 runs in the last three games. Similarly, Minnesota is scoring 2.98 runs per game in the first five innings this season, but many of those runs were against mediocre starting pitchers. Tonight, both starters are projected to perform well, as DraftKings has both pitchers earned run props set at under 2 (-140 to -160).

Martin’s dominance, coupled with two struggling offenses sets the stage for a low-scoring first five innings. I’ve handicapped this game at 7 runs, suggesting that we will likely finish the first half of this game with 3-4 runs max!
