Chicago Cubs vs San Francisco Giants (7:15pm)

I’m backing the Giants tonight at Oracle Park. This is a buy-low spot on San Francisco and a fade of a Cubs team that has been sliding hard. Chicago comes in 35-34, but the recent form is a major concern. The Cubs are just 8-22 over their last 30 games and recently dropped a series to Colorado. That’s not a team I want to trust on the road against a Giants lineup that has finally started producing.
The Giants’ offense is their biggest advantage in this matchup. Over the last 30 days, San Francisco has ranked 1st in MLB in wRC+ with an .827 OPS, while Chicago ranks just 25th in wRC+ over that same span with a .669 OPS. That’s a massive gap, and it matters more than season-long record here because these teams are trending in opposite directions offensively.
Landen Roupp also gives the Giants the pitching edge. Roupp enters at 5-6 with a 4.00 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 77 strikeouts, and only 4 HR allowed across 69.2 IP. Javier Assad has a lower WHIP at 1.08, but his strikeout profile is weaker with only 19 Ks in 32.1 IP, and San Francisco has been one of the tougher teams to punch out recently. The Giants have a 19.8% strikeout rate over the past 30 days, the fourth-lowest in MLB. This puts pressure on Assad to rely on contact pitching instead of striking out batters.
The matchup history also favors San Francisco. The Giants just took 2 of 3 from the Cubs in Chicago last weekend, including an 18-3 blowout where San Francisco hit seven home runs. Chicago now has to travel to Oracle Park, where the Cubs are just 1-6 over the past two seasons.
