Chicago Cubs vs San Francisco Giants (12:10pm)

The Giants are in a strong position to bounce back today against the Cubs. This matchup presents a much better scenario compared to the first two games of the series. While Chicago has already secured the series, San Francisco now has the advantage of starting with their ace pitcher to avoid the sweep. Logan Webb significantly alters the dynamics of this game. Webb comes in with a 3.88 ERA, but the recent form is the bigger story. He’s been dominant over his last three starts with a 0.90 ERA, giving the Giants the clear starting-pitching edge.
The Cubs are expected to counter with Ryan Rolison as the opener, with Colin Rea likely working behind him in bulk innings. Rolison has been effective against left-handed hitters, but this is still a bullpen-style setup, and that puts more pressure on Chicago’s middle relief early. The matchup becomes even more interesting because current Giants hitters have had success against Rea, going 16-for-32 with four home runs in limited history against him. That gives San Francisco a real path to finally breaking through offensively after two miserable showings.
Oracle Park also favors Webb’s pitching strengths. He can attack the zone, generate weak contact, and keep the ball on the ground, which matters against a Cubs lineup that just did most of its damage through the long ball. This is not a blind fade of Chicago. It is a starter-driven spot where the Giants have the better arm, revenge motivation, and better matchup path against the Cubs.
