Houston Astros vs San Francisco Giants (12:45pm)

I like the Under 8.5 in this afternoon matchup at Oracle Park, where the environment immediately works in our favor. Statcast’s 2026 park factors have Oracle at just 88 for runs and 74 for home runs, making it one of the more pitcher-friendly environments in baseball this season. With temperatures sitting in the mid-to-upper 60s around first pitch, this isn’t the type of setting where I expect the ball to carry.

Houston’s offense also comes into this game in a noticeable downturn. The Astros have averaged only 3.6 runs over their last eight games, while Jeremy Pena is in a 2-for-34 funk. They managed just one run and five hits Tuesday night, failing to score after the first inning despite getting multiple early opportunities. Jose Altuve is also out the lineup after leaving Tuesday’s game with a foot contusion, potentially taking another important bat out of the lineup.

Adrian Houser doesn’t need to dominate for this Under to cash. His season numbers are mediocre at 4.86 ERA and 1.38 WHIP, but his style is better suited to Oracle Park than a smaller power venue. Houston’s current inability to consistently convert baserunners into runs gives Houser some margin for error, especially if San Francisco can keep the ball in the yard.

On the other side, Houston is going with Bryan King as an opener, his first professional start, which should allow the Astros to attack San Francisco with favorable bullpen matchups rather than forcing one pitcher through the lineup three times. King has spent his career primarily in relief, and Houston can piece together the middle innings before turning things over to its higher-leverage arms if the game remains close.

Ultimately, I see this game finishing 3-2, 4-2 or 4-3 type of game rather than a shootout. Houston’s offense is struggling, Oracle Park continues to suppress power, Altuve is out the lineup and Houston’s opener/bullpen approach gives the Giants fewer opportunities to settle into favorable repeat matchups.
