The defending National Champion Villanova Wildcats opened their season by destroying Lafayette 88-48 for a 1-0 start. Villanova shot 49.3 percent from the floor and 36.6 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and they absolutely dominated the boards. Tonight they face a Purdue team that is filled with returning seniors from last season. Both Vince Edwards and Caleb Swanigan pulled themselves out of the NBA draft to return back to the Boilermakers for another season.
The Boilermakers are ranked 15th in the nation and they are off to a 1-0 start after defeating McNeese State 109-65. Purdue shot 55.7% from the floor and 39.1% from behind the arc in their home opener. Isaac Haas poured in 22 points while Vince Edwards posted a double-double with 19 points plus 11 boards. Carsen Edwards also contributed with 18 points off the bench and Dakota Mathias chipped in 13 for Purdue in the contest.
The difference here is that Villanova really knows how to close out the big games when things get close! Nova has captured the only two previous meetings with the Boilermakers. Purdue holds a 0-5 all-time record vs. Top 5 non-Big 10 opponents in West Lafayette. Bank on the Big East here.
Pick: Villanova -2 (-120)
Best of luck!
